Cherry Hemangiomas

Cherry hemangiomas, also sometimes called cherry angiomas or cherry spots, are small, benign growths on the skin composed of blood vessels.

Appearance:

• Tiny, bright red, dome-shaped bumps (papules)

• May have a pale halo surrounding them

• Size typically ranges from 1 to 5 millimeters

• Can appear anywhere on the body

• May increase in number and size with age.

Cause:

The exact cause is unknown, but factors like genetics and aging likely play a role

Symptoms:

• Usually asymptomatic (cause no problems)

• May bleed if scratched or irritated

Treatment:

• Generally not necessary for medical reasons .

• Can be removed for cosmetic reasons by a dermatology provider through various methods like:

• Shaving
• Laser surgery
• Electrocautery (using electricity to burn the tissue)
